Rangers pulled off yet another stunning comeback at Dens Park on Saturday, securing a dramatic 4-3 victory over Dundee despite twice trailing by two goals.

Tony Docherty’s side stormed into an early lead, with Simon Murray and Joe Shaughnessy finding the net within the first 20 minutes. Rangers managed to pull one back before halftime, courtesy of a Shaughnessy own goal.

Scott Tiffoney extended Dundee’s lead again in the second half, but Rangers responded in style, with James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence, and Cyriel Dessers completing a remarkable turnaround.

Defensive issues continue for Rangers

Despite the win, Jack Butland once again conceded multiple goals in a league match, with an “astonishing” statistic emerging during the game.

The Gers have now let in at least two goals in their last five Premiership outings, including the 2-1 defeat to St. Mirren that led to Philippe Clement’s dismissal. They also conceded twice in their thrilling 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock, as well as against Motherwell and in the Old Firm derby.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound [29 March, 17:53], Alasdair Lamont highlighted a historic defensive slump:

“For the first time since April 1986, Rangers have conceded two or more goals in five consecutive league games. Pretty astonishing.”

Europa League campaign crucial for Ferguson’s future

With Celtic comfortably leading the title race, Rangers’ Premiership hopes are all but over. The club parted ways with Clement in February, appointing Barry Ferguson as interim boss.

Ferguson has impressed so far, guiding the team to the Europa League quarter-finals by knocking out Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the last 16. His success has strengthened his case for securing the managerial role on a permanent basis.

With a potential takeover looming at Ibrox, the new owners will be closely watching Rangers’ quarter-final showdown against Athletic Club. A semi-final berth in the European competition would significantly boost Ferguson’s chances of landing the job full-time.

The first leg takes place at Ibrox on 10 April, with the return fixture at San Mamés a week later.
