Norwich City Eye Move for Notts County Striker Alassana Jatta

Norwich City are reportedly considering a move for Notts County forward Alassana Jatta, according to EFL Analysis. The Canaries are expected to strengthen their squad when the transfer window reopens, and the prolific League Two striker has emerged as a potential target.

Jatta on Norwich’s Radar

Jatta, 26, has been in excellent form this season, scoring 19 goals across all competitions, with 16 of those coming in the league. Back in January, Plymouth Argyle made an attempt to sign him, but their bid was rejected, as reported by The Guardian.

Providing an update on the striker’s situation, journalist Graeme Bailey told EFL Analysis:

“Jatta, the leading scorer in League Two with 17 goals, was subject to a failed bid from Plymouth Argyle in January, and several clubs are now monitoring him.

“We can reveal Norwich, who are likely to lose their star striker Josh Sargent this summer, are among the clubs doing background work on the Gambia international.”

Bailey further noted that Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers, both of whom could need to replace their own key forward Richard Kone, have also shown interest in the Notts County talisman.

Could Jatta Be Sargent’s Successor?

Norwich may view Jatta as a viable option to reinforce their attacking lineup, especially with the possibility of Sargent departing. The Gambian forward signed for Notts County in 2024 and has quickly adapted to English football.

His journey began with stints at Nema City, Gambia Ports Authority, Sukuta United, Real de Banjul, and Paide Linnameeskond before earning a move to Danish club Viborg in 2019. During his time in Denmark, he netted 21 goals in 103 appearances before making the switch to Meadow Lane, where he scored five times in his debut campaign.

Notts County may struggle to hold on to their star striker beyond this season, but for now, their priority remains securing promotion to League One. Stuart Maynard’s squad currently sits sixth in the table, firmly in the play-off race alongside Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon, and Grimsby Town.

Will Norwich Make a Move?

It remains to be seen whether Norwich will submit a formal bid for Jatta. The Canaries’ hopes of making the Championship play-offs are fading, as they currently sit five points off the top six with just seven games remaining. With fierce competition for promotion, securing reinforcements for the next campaign could become their primary focus.
