Rangers could make a move for a key Arsenal figure behind the scenes as part of the impending 49ers-led takeover at Ibrox.

The Scottish giants are preparing for a transformative summer once the takeover is officially approved, with the new ownership eager to make their mark on the club.

Speculation is rife regarding potential signings and the players Rangers may target in the upcoming transfer window.

Additionally, a crucial decision looms over the managerial position, as the club is currently without a permanent head coach. Barry Ferguson is serving as interim manager until the season’s end, but it remains uncertain whether he will be retained or if the 49ers will opt for a fresh appointment.

Rangers Target Arsenal’s Jason Ayto

Beyond player acquisitions, Rangers are also keen to strengthen their backroom staff, with Arsenal’s Jason Ayto emerging as a target.

Ayto, who initially joined the Gunners as a scout in 2014, has since taken on greater responsibilities, including serving as interim sporting director following Edu Gaspar’s departure. Arsenal even considered him for the role on a permanent basis.

While the North London club hopes to retain Ayto and is in discussions about his future, Rangers have expressed interest in securing his services as the American takeover nears, according to TBR Football (31 March).

Ayto in High Demand

Mikel Arteta holds Ayto in high regard, previously praising his contributions as “phenomenal.” This has drawn attention from multiple Premier League clubs, including Everton and Crystal Palace.

Everton will need to replace Kevin Thelwell, who is set to depart, while Palace’s sporting director, Dougie Freedman, is heading to Saudi Arabia, leaving both clubs in search of reinforcements.

With strong competition for his signature, Rangers face a battle to land Ayto, but securing him would represent a major statement from the new Ibrox ownership.
