Norwich City forward Josh Sargent has expressed his happiness at the club and has not ruled out extending his stay at Carrow Road beyond this season.
The United States international has been in excellent form under Johannes Hoff Thorup, netting 13 goals this season, including the winner against West Brom last weekend. His tally is particularly impressive considering he has only featured in 25 matches, having missed 14 due to groin surgery.
Sargent’s goal-scoring exploits have drawn interest from multiple clubs, with Nottingham Forest reportedly sending scouts to monitor the 25-year-old. Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg also suggested that several Premier League and Bundesliga sides are keen on him.
During the international break, Sargent spoke to the Guardian, hinting at a ‘decision’ regarding his future at Norwich. However, he has since clarified his remarks, reaffirming his contentment at the club.
Speaking to the Pink Un, Sargent explained: “I’m pretty sure in the first half of that interview, I said, ‘I have a contract here at Norwich.’ I’m very happy. My family is very happy here.
“It wasn’t meant to suggest I’m definitely leaving at the end of the season. I’m very happy with the manager and the team. I was simply acknowledging that there will be options, but that doesn’t mean I’m leaving.
“My family and I will have to make a decision, and the club would have to agree to let me go in the first place. As of now, I’m very happy here. I didn’t intend for the interview to come across negatively. Norwich has become home for my family, and the fans have always been amazing to me. I have nothing but good things to say about this place.
“I think my words may have been misinterpreted, and I never wanted to upset anyone.”
Sargent’s comments provide hope for Norwich that he could remain at Carrow Road. His contributions have been crucial in keeping the club’s slim play-off hopes alive.
As he continues to develop into a top-class forward, a Premier League move could be a natural progression—especially if Norwich fails to secure promotion. However, the Canaries will be eager to retain him, as his presence could be vital in their push for a return to the top flight.
Between now and the end of the season, Norwich must use his comments as motivation to persuade him to stay, ensuring he remains a key figure in their ambitions to return to the Premier League.
