Leicester City are facing the real prospect of a second Premier League relegation in just three seasons.

Currently sitting 19th in the table, the Foxes are 12 points behind 17th-placed Wolves, who are now virtually safe from the drop.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side suffered their seventh straight defeat last night, falling 2-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Leicester’s player ratings from the match were dismal, with even goalkeeper Mads Hermansen receiving a particularly low score.

Following the defeat, frustrated Leicester fans called for Van Nistelrooy to be sacked, and reports suggest the club could move on from him in the summer.

Danny Rohl emerges as a potential replacement

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester have identified Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as a possible successor to Van Nistelrooy.

Rohl masterminded a remarkable survival campaign with Wednesday last season and has since guided them to a stable mid-table position despite limited resources.

Leicester’s head of recruitment, Martyn Glover, is said to be a long-time admirer of Rohl, dating back to their time together at Southampton. However, one hurdle in securing his services is the significant release clause in his Sheffield Wednesday contract, meaning any deal would come at a considerable cost.

Leicester to decide Van Nistelrooy’s future in the summer

The Mail also reports that Leicester may wait until the summer before making a final decision on Van Nistelrooy’s future. Club chairman Khun Top and director Jon Rudkin are expected to assess all options over the next few weeks.

In addition to Rohl, Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior has also been added to Leicester’s managerial shortlist. Both Rohl and Rosenior are regarded as promising young coaches with Championship experience—Rohl at Wednesday and Rosenior previously managing Hull City—indicating the type of profile Leicester are targeting.
