The late beloved VitiFM personality, Maikeli Radua, was laid to rest today in his home village of Waikete, Tailevu.
His final journey began early this morning, with his cortege departing the Suva morgue at 5am. The procession made a heartfelt stop at the Communications Fiji Limited (CFL) headquarters on Waimanu Road—where Radua dedicated nearly three decades of his life—before continuing to his home in Vesivesi, Kinoya, and ultimately to Waikete.
Along the way, people lined the roadside holding banners and placards with farewell messages, paying tribute to the man who brought them laughter and comfort on the airwaves for 29 years.
Upon arrival in the village, Radua’s family presented a tabua (whale’s tooth) as an i-vakasobu, a traditional Fijian gesture of deep respect and recognition of his significance. CFL staff then carried his casket to the village hall, where another tabua was offered—this time as the i-soli ni yago, a ceremonial handover of his body to the village elders, signifying his final return home.
Hundreds gathered in Waikete Village to honour and farewell Radua.
Speaking during the church service, VitiFM Content Director Atu Kurumudu reflected on Radua’s lasting legacy, saying he left behind important life lessons the team will continue to embrace. He recalled one of Radua’s favourite sayings: “I love my radio station.”
Radua’s older brother, Semesa Dumaru, highlighted the profound impact his passing has had on the media landscape, remembering him for his unwavering dedication, influence, and passion.
In tribute to Radua, a moment of silence will be held prior to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua vs Crusaders match at HFC Bank Stadium today.
