Over the years, only a handful of players have dared to cross the fierce divide between Rangers and Celtic.

More than 20 players have worn both the blue and green hoops, but in modern times, making the switch from Ibrox to Parkhead — or the other way around — is virtually taboo.

Celtic youngster Francis Turley recently snubbed Rangers to join the Hoops, stating bluntly that there was “no chance” he’d ever play at Ibrox — a sentiment that captures the intensity of the Old Firm rivalry.

Now, as the summer transfer window approaches, speculation is growing around one key Celtic player potentially making the shock switch to Rangers.

Greg Taylor, who appears to be on his way out of Celtic Park, has been linked with a move across the city. But if Rangers are serious, they’ll have to compete with another European heavyweight.

Former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd stirred the pot by suggesting Rangers should consider Taylor as a left-back option, especially with his contract winding down.

Brendan Rodgers has since confirmed Taylor will leave Celtic, fuelling the rumours further. Ex-Rangers defender Craig Moore has also suggested Taylor could be a solid fit, particularly with doubts surrounding Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz.

However, Rangers face tough competition. The Daily Record reports that Croatian giants Dinamo — currently ranked 3rd in UEFA coefficient standings — have made a “lucrative” offer for Taylor. Rangers, ranked 8th, are also among Europe’s top performers.

So where did the Rangers-Taylor rumours begin? Mainly from Boyd’s comments, rather than any official interest from the club.

“If you’re Rangers, would you offer Greg Taylor a contract?” Boyd asked in an interview with the Scottish Sun. “Look at Yilmaz and Jefte. Taylor’s been consistently reliable. If he’s not staying at Celtic and wants regular football, could we see him switch sides in Glasgow?”

Interestingly, Taylor grew up a Rangers supporter, and some believe that allegiance has affected how he’s perceived by Celtic fans.
