It was a third consecutive draw for Leeds United on Saturday, as Daniel Farke’s side dropped further behind in the automatic promotion race after failing to defeat relegation-threatened Luton Town.

Luton, who had won three of their last five matches, were fighting for survival at the bottom and took full advantage of Leeds’ poor form. Ao Tanaka, criticized by Farke in his post-match comments, was at fault for the opening goal, losing possession in midfield and allowing Luton to counter. The move ended with Jones scoring from a volley off a Luton cross. However, Leeds responded quickly, with Dan James equalizing shortly after with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

The draw brought Leeds’ total to 82 points, but they dropped to third place after Burnley came from behind to defeat Coventry. Sheffield United, however, suffered a surprise loss to Gary Rowett’s Oxford United. With just two points separating the top two, the competition remains tight, and Sheffield United and Burnley are set to face each other later this month. Luton manager Matt Bloomfield shared his thoughts on Leeds’ future, stating he believes they will be in the Premier League next season. Despite recent form struggles, Bloomfield pointed out that Leeds had only lost once in their last 24 games and that Daniel Farke knows how to navigate this division.

Looking ahead, Leeds United’s remaining fixtures present a chance to collect 18 points, with the clear goal being to outperform Burnley and Sheffield United. The two sides will face off at Turf Moor on April 21 in a crucial match that could see both drop points. Leeds’ next match is on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough, followed by three home games in their next four fixtures—against Preston, Oxford, Stoke, and Bristol City—before a pivotal trip to Plymouth on the final day. These six matches will determine the success or failure of Farke’s tenure.
