Leeds United’s Summer Plans Hinge on Promotion Fate
Leeds United’s transfer strategy this summer will be heavily influenced by whether or not they secure promotion back to the Premier League — or face another season in the Championship.
Currently sitting third in the table after a draw with Luton Town, manager Daniel Farke remains confident in his team’s chances of going up. However, their form has dipped, with just one win in their last six games and three consecutive draws. Next up is a tough clash against Middlesbrough, a team still in the hunt for a play-off spot and who already beat Leeds earlier in the season.
If promotion is secured, Leeds are expected to retain their top players and invest heavily in new talent. BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope has suggested the club could make six significant signings, spending over £100 million — following in the footsteps of Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton last summer.
Grady Diangana Interested in Potential Leeds Move
Regardless of which division they end up in, Leeds are reportedly eyeing West Brom winger Grady Diangana. According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, the soon-to-be free agent has attracted interest from MLS clubs, but he’s delaying a decision in hopes of landing a move to either Leeds or Wolves.
Lee Hendrie has praised Diangana’s flair and skill, and Daniel Farke is believed to be a long-time admirer. During Farke’s tenure, Leeds were linked with a £7 million bid for Diangana, who also scored the decisive goal in West Brom’s win over Leeds earlier this season.
Uncertainty on the Wings for Leeds
Leeds already have strong options out wide with Dan James, Willy Gnonto, Largie Ramazani, and Manor Solomon. However, the squad could change dramatically depending on promotion. If Leeds go up, Solomon could be signed permanently. But if they miss out, it’s likely Solomon departs — and potentially James and Gnonto too, given their talent and suitors.
In that scenario, Leeds could be a more appealing destination for Diangana, especially if he wants regular minutes. Still, it’s unclear if he’d be willing to join a Leeds side stuck in the Championship, especially as Premier League clubs like Wolves also show interest. Should Leeds go up, they may opt for higher-profile signings than Diangana.
