Update on Kikau as Bulldogs Cop Fresh Injury Setback
The Canterbury Bulldogs have been dealt another injury setback, with rising forward Harry Hayes taken to hospital following a training mishap.
As the club gears up for their Good Friday showdown with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Hayes is expected to spend a brief period on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury during a training session. Despite the Bulldogs having the bye this week, the young forward was sent for scans, according to 9News reporter Danny Weidler.
Hayes, who debuted last season, has already clocked up 14 NRL appearances for Canterbury and featured in all five of their games this year off the bench. The promising forward is the grandson of former Bulldogs great Merv Hicks.
The news of Hayes’ injury comes alongside an update on Fijian star Viliame Kikau, who remains in doubt for the Round 6 clash. Kikau is still managing a Grade Two MCL injury and may not be fit until Round 8.
Although Matt Burton is set to return, Kikau told The Sydney Morning Herald he’s proceeding with caution in his recovery.
“Burto and I had our first run last Sunday. I’ve got another run today [Tuesday] to see how stable the knee feels,” Kikau said.
“I still need to tick a few boxes. There’s no real rush to come back because the boys have been playing well.
“I’m making sure the knee gets all the treatment it needs. The team’s back on Sunday, but I won’t be doing any full contact just yet.”
