Changes Expected as Celtic Prepare for Kilmarnock Clash
Celtic fans can expect some changes to the starting lineup ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime game against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.
One of the key discussion points following the disappointing loss to St Johnstone has been the performance of Nicolas Kuhn. Once a standout performer and a regular name on Brendan Rodgers’ teamsheet, Kuhn’s form has dipped since December, and he now appears at risk of losing his starting spot.
With Kilmarnock battling to stay clear of the relegation zone, the question arises: who should take Kuhn’s place if he is dropped?
Hyunjun Yang seems the obvious replacement on the wing, but pundit Peter Grant believes Rodgers could go in a different direction.
Luke McCowan Tipped to Start Against Kilmarnock
Although primarily a central midfielder, Luke McCowan has impressed since joining Celtic in the summer. However, he’s yet to nail down a consistent starting role.
Speaking on Go Radio, Peter Grant suggested McCowan could be a surprise option out wide, citing his attacking qualities as a key factor.
“Personally, I’m not convinced Yang is ready to start just yet,” Grant said. “He’s been effective as an impact sub, but I’d consider playing McCowan out wide. It’s not his natural position, but he’s got a great left foot, looks to play forward, gets into the box, and has a real goal threat. He’s never let the team down.”
Grant added that McCowan’s inclusion could throw off Kilmarnock’s game plan, particularly if they line up with three at the back and use wing-backs—something that has worked for both Rangers and St Johnstone against Celtic recently.
McCowan Making His Mark at Celtic
At 27, McCowan is enjoying life at his boyhood club and closing in on his first Premiership title. Despite limited starts due to fierce competition in midfield, he’s made an impact off the bench throughout the season.
His performances have earned him a solid 6.83 rating on WhoScored for his Premiership appearances, showing he’s making the most of his opportunities in his debut season at Celtic Park.
