Leicester City are expected to hold talks regarding Ruud van Nistelrooy’s immediate future once their relegation from the Premier League is confirmed, sources have informed Football Insider.

The Foxes appear destined for the drop, currently sitting 15 points behind 17th-placed Wolves with just seven matches remaining this season.

Insiders claim there is a “strong possibility” the 48-year-old Dutchman will depart once relegation becomes official.

A similar move was made by Southampton earlier in the campaign when they parted ways with Ivan Juric following their demotion and named Simon Rusk as interim boss.

Leicester could mathematically seal their return to the Championship for the 2025-26 season by the end of April.

Van Nistelrooy’s future in doubt as Leicester spiral continues

Leicester’s form has hit rock bottom, with eight consecutive defeats and no goals scored during that stretch, leading to increasing discontent from the fanbase over Van Nistelrooy’s leadership.

He succeeded Steve Cooper in December with Leicester in 16th place and managed a win in his debut against West Ham. However, he’s since secured just one additional victory, earning only seven points from a possible 54.

Despite an earlier positive spell as interim manager at Manchester United this season, Van Nistelrooy is under contract at the King Power Stadium until June 2027.

Dyche and Martin linked to Leicester role

Meanwhile, Football Insider reports that Sean Dyche and Russell Martin are among the names being considered as potential replacements.

Martin was dismissed by Southampton in December, and Dyche was let go by Everton in January, with David Moyes taking his place.

Leicester’s expected relegation marks a swift decline following their Championship title-winning campaign under Enzo Maresca in 2022-23.
