Norwich City Eye Nottingham Forest Starlet Adam Berry Amid Summer Transfer Interest

Norwich City are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Nottingham Forest prospect Adam Berry.

According to Teamtalk, the Canaries are among three Championship clubs monitoring the 19-year-old midfielder, with Norwich believed to have already made an enquiry about his availability. The interest comes as Berry remains locked in a contract dispute with Forest.

However, Norwich face stiff competition, with Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, and Belgian outfit Westerlo also said to be keen on the former Manchester United academy product.

Berry, a versatile attacking midfielder who can play as a No.10 or out wide, is yet to make his senior debut for Forest after joining from United in 2023. Heā€™s made nine Premier League 2 appearances so far this year.

Pundit Sceptical of Potential Move

FLWā€™s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes offered a cautious take on the rumours, expressing doubt over the necessity of another young attacker in the squadā€”especially if Berry is being lined up as a replacement for Borja Sainz.

ā€œI personally havenā€™t heard of Adam Berry,ā€ Downes admitted. ā€œHeā€™s a good age and comes from a good club, but Forest have a lot of attacking talent already in Elanga, Hudson-Odoi, and Gibbs-White.ā€

Downes noted that Norwich have already invested heavily in young forwards such as Oscar Schwartau, Ante Crnac, Matej Jurasek, and Amankwah Forson.

ā€œIā€™d rather see us bring in someone a bit more experienced, around 24 to 28 years oldā€”ready to hit the ground runningā€”rather than another youngster we need to wait a year or more on,ā€ he added. ā€œSomeone like [Lewis] Dobbin might have been ideal, but his injury makes that uncertain.ā€

Right Player, Wrong Timing?

With Norwich sitting 11th in the Championship following a goalless draw with Sunderland, the clubā€™s current trajectory suggests they need more immediate impact players. While Berryā€™s potential and versatility are appealing, he may not be the ideal fit for a squad already filled with youthful attackers.

If Norwich can agree a low-cost deal with Forest, the move could still make sense as a long-term investment. But if Berry is intended to fill the boots of Sainz should the Spaniard leave this summer, fans may be left underwhelmed.

In short, Adam Berry could be a valuable assetā€”but perhaps not the solution Norwich need right now.
