Brendan Rodgers spent the weekend addressing speculation surrounding both Celtic’s upcoming summer transfer window and his own future at the club.
Following the Hoops’ shock defeat to St Johnstone, Rodgers sparked debate after questioning his squad’s mentality and suggesting changes were needed — even going so far as to imply that if there was no squad refresh, “the manager goes.” That led to widespread speculation over whether he was issuing an ultimatum.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Stewart commended Rodgers for how he handled tough questioning from the media, particularly in addressing concerns about whether he’s planning a long-term stay at Parkhead.
“It was all very interesting. He was very clear and composed — very impressive,” Stewart said. “There’s always going to be that doubt in fans’ minds because of how he left the first time. But he addressed it brilliantly, and Celtic supporters should take comfort in that. He’s clearly not resting on his laurels.”

With doubts over his future surfacing once again, Rodgers firmly stated that he intends to stay — but also stressed the importance of continued investment and progression.
“He’s not ranting or raving, but he’s laying down the law,” Stewart added. “He’s made it clear that complacency isn’t acceptable — not just for the players but for the entire club. He’s saying, ‘I’m committed, but we must keep evolving.’ That’s a totally fair position and the right message to send.”
Rodgers’ words appear to have resonated. Following the defeat in Perth, Celtic bounced back with a strong display against Kilmarnock, putting themselves within touching distance of the league title. With the Scottish Cup next on the calendar, the timing of Rodgers’ message could prove pivotal in keeping their treble ambitions on track.
