David Edgar Delivers Blunt Assessment on Ross McCausland’s Rangers Future

David Edgar has weighed in on Ross McCausland’s uncertain future at Rangers following a disappointing performance against Aberdeen.

The 21-year-old was heavily criticised after being sent off just 40 minutes into his substitute appearance in the 2-2 draw. McCausland received two yellow cards, leaving his team vulnerable to another league loss.

According to Edgar, of the Heart and Hand podcast, the Northern Ireland international may have reached the end of the road at Ibrox. Taking to X, he stated plainly: “Nah, he’s done. Just not good enough.”

Despite making 20 appearances across all competitions this season, McCausland has rarely started and has struggled to influence games even when brought off the bench.

Edgar’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among supporters and pundits who believe the winger has not developed as hoped.

While McCausland is still young and could improve with time—particularly as wide players often peak later—there’s concern that he hasn’t shown year-on-year progress. Last season, there were signs of promise, but those have faded in the current campaign.

Although his contract runs until 2027, with Rangers holding an option for an additional year, the club may see this summer as the right moment to sell and secure a profit.

Ultimately, the decision may rest with the incoming manager and new ownership. A strong pre-season showing could change McCausland’s trajectory, but as things stand, his future at Rangers looks increasingly uncertain.
