The Brisbane Broncos have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming clash, with a key player officially cleared to play following a concussion downgrade.

The NRL has confirmed that the player, who entered concussion protocols after a heavy knock in last week’s fixture, has now been medically cleared following independent neurological assessment. The downgrade means he will be eligible for selection in this weekend’s crucial matchup.

The news comes as a relief for Broncos coach Kevin Walters, who faced the prospect of reshuffling his side for a high-stakes game. The unnamed star — believed to be a central figure in the Broncos’ attacking setup — passed all required head injury assessments after showing no lingering symptoms.

“We’re obviously thrilled to have him available,” Walters said during Tuesday’s press conference. “We followed all the right procedures, and his health and safety remain our top priority. But he’s pulled up really well and is eager to get back out there.”

The decision to downgrade the concussion status was made following extensive monitoring under the NRL’s revised HIA (Head Injury Assessment) protocols. The player underwent both cognitive and physical testing, supervised by an independent neurologist, as part of the league’s enhanced safety measures.

Broncos fans were holding their breath after seeing the star leave the field in the first half of last week’s win, sparking concerns about a potential mandatory 11-day stand-down. However, medical clearance means the Broncos can retain continuity heading into a stretch of tough fixtures.

The player is expected to take part in the team’s main training session on Wednesday, with no further restrictions placed on his involvement.

The Broncos currently sit within the top four on the NRL ladder and will be looking to maintain momentum as they continue their push toward finals contention. With key players returning and the side firing on both sides of the ball, Brisbane’s title hopes remain firmly alive.

Kick-off for the Broncos’ next match is set for Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium.
