Crusaders Brace for Blues Challenge Amid Title Push
The Crusaders continue their steady march toward another Super Rugby Pacific title, buoyed by a consistent squad and strong recent form. However, they now face a reinvigorated Blues outfit that could pose a serious threat this weekend.
Just three weeks ago, the Crusaders cruised to victory over the Blues in Auckland, but their long-time rivals have bounced back impressively since, racking up a series of wins and beginning to show glimpses of the form that saw them crowned champions last season.
“They’ve put themselves in a position to control their own fate, so we’re expecting another tough encounter,” Crusaders head coach Rob Penney said in the lead-up to the highly anticipated clash.
There are just two changes to the Crusaders’ starting XV, with experienced hooker Codie Taylor returning after a mandatory one-week concussion stand-down. In the second row, Antonio Shalfoon slots back into the run-on side.
As a result, Ioane Moananu and Jamie Hannah move to the bench, where they’ll offer valuable impact. Penney was full of praise for Moananu, highlighting his reliability and influence.
“Ioane’s earned his spot in this squad. He’s a respected player who brings quality in key areas—his lineout work is sharp, his scrummaging is strong, and he’s the kind of guy who gets the crowd excited with every touch.”
