Rangers are already turning their attention to the upcoming summer transfer window, with hopes that 49ers Enterprises will complete a takeover at Ibrox.

It’s been a tough domestic campaign for the club, currently trailing Celtic by 15 points, with the Europa League being their only remaining competition to fight for.

Following Philippe Clement’s dismissal, Barry Ferguson has stepped in as interim manager until the season concludes. What lies beyond that remains uncertain. One thing that does seem clear is that if Andrew Cavanagh manages to finalise a takeover, it could usher in a far more ambitious era for the club.

Hugh Keevins responds to takeover speculation

While Rangers have endured a difficult league season, they’ve still managed to get the better of Celtic on a few occasions, offering a glimmer of positivity.

Should the takeover go through, the Light Blues will aim to rebuild and mount a serious challenge against Celtic in the next campaign. Still, fans have been urged to remain realistic, as long-term success will take time and careful planning.

That said, compared to their current situation, any vision of a fresh start would surely be welcome.

One Celtic fan, however, poured cold water on the speculation, calling into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (15 April) to dismiss the takeover rumours and blaming veteran journalist Hugh Keevins for stirring things up.

Keevins, smiling, didn’t hold back in his response: “How do you know that? You’re accusing me of being out of the loop—how do you know what’s really happening?

“I’ll take your call when it happens, and I hope you’ll be man enough to call back once it’s confirmed. Thanks and goodbye.”

Bigger priorities for Rangers right now

Understandably, Rangers fans are already looking toward the summer with hopes of change. But first, there’s important business to take care of.

Barry Ferguson’s side travel to face Athletic Bilbao on Thursday (17 April) for the second leg of their Europa League tie. They held firm at Ibrox despite going down to ten men early, with Robin Propper sent off and Liam Kelly facing a penalty.

Now, they head into a difficult away leg without an advantage—but as their previous display against Fenerbahce proved, this team still has fight.

Given the disappointments of this season, any progress in Europe would be a much-needed boost heading into what fans hope will be a new and promising chapter.
