Bulldogs Secure Bright Future with New Deal for Rising Star Blake Wilson
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have moved to lock in one of their brightest young talents, handing exciting outside back Blake Wilson a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025 NRL season.
Wilson, a 23-year-old product of the Noosa Pirates, burst onto the scene in 2023 and quickly made a name for himself as a dynamic and reliable option in the Bulldogs’ backline. His elevation to the NRL squad came in Round 11 last season, stepping up to replace the injured Josh Addo-Carr — and he didn’t disappoint.
In just 11 first-grade appearances, Wilson scored six tries, including a memorable hat-trick against South Sydney in Round 19. He also contributed four try assists, racked up 11 line breaks, 47 tackle busts, and averaged an impressive 130 running metres per game. His performances earned widespread praise and showed a glimpse of his enormous potential.
Bulldogs General Manager of Football Phil Gould welcomed the extension, highlighting Wilson’s work ethic and upside.
“Blake is a great example of what can happen when talent meets opportunity,” said Gould. “He made the most of his chance last year and we’re thrilled to reward his efforts. His best footy is still in front of him.”
Wilson’s journey through the NSW Cup, where he featured at both fullback and wing, gave him the versatility and resilience needed to thrive in the top grade. His adaptability and consistent performances have made him a valuable asset for head coach Cameron Ciraldo, who continues to develop a young, competitive squad.
Speaking about his new deal, Wilson expressed his gratitude and excitement for the road ahead.
“I’m incredibly thankful to the Bulldogs for the opportunity and their faith in me,” Wilson said. “It’s been a great journey so far, and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and improve alongside a really talented group of players. The fans and club have been amazing — I’m proud to wear the blue and white.”
Wilson’s extension is part of a broader retention strategy for the Bulldogs, who have also recently re-signed rising star Jacob Kiraz through to the end of the 2027 season. With a strong emphasis on youth development, the club is clearly building toward a sustained period of success.
With Wilson set to return to pre-season training in November, all eyes will be on the young gun as he looks to solidify his place in the Bulldogs’ backline and help lead the club to a strong 2025 campaign.
The Bulldogs faithful will be hoping Wilson’s continued rise mirrors the club’s resurgence as they look to reestablish themselves as a force in the NRL.
