Vaclav Cerny Set to Leave Rangers Amid Celtic Transfer Speculation
Vaclav Cerny is expected to depart Rangers at the end of the season when his loan from Wolfsburg expires, and speculation is mounting over a possible shock switch to Celtic.
The Czech international joined the Ibrox side on a season-long loan last summer, with an option to buy for £5.5 million included in the agreement. However, it remains uncertain whether the Light Blues will exercise that clause.
With the 27-year-old’s future hanging in the balance, a bold claim has emerged suggesting that Celtic could make a move for Cerny — a development that would likely unsettle Rangers supporters.
Celtic Tipped to Swoop for Cerny
Journalist Fraser Clarke has hinted that Celtic could pursue Cerny during the next transfer window, suggesting he’d be a strong addition to the squad at Parkhead. Speaking on Game On, as reported by The Daily Record (18 April), Clarke posed the idea of Cerny heading to the Hoops while Greg Taylor is linked with a move in the opposite direction to Ibrox.
“We’ve spoken about Taylor being linked with Rangers. Could Cerny be tempted to go the other way? I think he’d improve Celtic and be a good signing for them. There would be no controversy. I’m sure, it would be no bother!” Clarke stated.
Rangers Urged to Secure Cerny Permanently
Despite Rangers’ turbulent season, Cerny has been a standout performer and has reportedly shown interest in continuing under interim boss Barry Ferguson. The club is being urged to trigger the £5.5m buy option and keep the winger in Glasgow.
With Rangers knocked out of the Europa League by Athletic Club and their Premiership campaign all but over, attention is already turning to next season. Maintaining key players like Cerny will be crucial if they aim to challenge Celtic’s domestic dominance — especially with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises set to take control of the club.
Whether Rangers act swiftly to secure Cerny or risk losing him to their Old Firm rivals remains to be seen.
