Rangers are reportedly eyeing a move for Dundee midfielder Josh Mulligan, aiming to snap him up on a free transfer this summer.

The 22-year-old is set to leave Dundee when his contract expires at the end of the season and has been free to negotiate with other clubs since the start of 2025.

Mulligan appears to match the profile Rangers are targeting

As per Rangers Review, the Ibrox club recognizes the need to add more physicality to their squad, and Mulligan’s attributes align with that goal. His availability on a free transfer makes the deal even more appealing to the club.

He’s already impressed against Rangers this season, registering an assist in a 1-1 draw earlier in the campaign.

With Lyall Cameron already penning a pre-contract, Rangers are eager to get Mulligan to follow suit.

Kevin Thelwell, recently appointed to oversee recruitment at Ibrox, is expected to lead the charge for the midfielder’s signature.

Mulligan would be a smart, strategic addition

Securing Mulligan for free would represent a shrewd piece of business — bolstering squad depth and offering tactical versatility, without compromising the club’s transfer budget. Capable of playing in midfield, at wing-back, or as a right-back, his adaptability is a key asset.

With five assists in the Premiership this season, his athleticism and offensive contributions highlight his value as a utility option.

Adding a homegrown talent like Mulligan fits sporting director Nils Koppen’s vision and could strengthen ties with the fanbase. The move would also allow Rangers to allocate more resources toward big-ticket signings, such as a new striker or a long-term successor to James Tavernier — all while reinforcing their squad for a title push.
