Norwich City have confirmed that goalkeeper Angus Gunn will depart the club this summer once his contract ends.
It brings to a close a disappointing campaign for the Canaries, who—despite being among the bigger spenders in the Championship—are set to finish mid-table, currently sitting in 14th place as the season wraps up this weekend.
Following the recent dismissal of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, Norwich have placed Jack Wilshere in temporary charge while the search for a new permanent manager is underway. However, a new boss isn’t the only pressing concern at Carrow Road.
The club has also announced that three senior players will leave when their deals expire. Among them are Onel Hernández and Jacob Lungi Sørensen, but the most notable exit is that of Scottish international keeper Angus Gunn, who has featured in 40 of Norwich’s 45 league games this season.
With Gunn on his way out, Norwich City will be in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper. Here are three potential replacements:
Sam Tickle – Wigan Athletic
Tickle is among the most promising young goalkeepers in England and is likely to attract serious interest this summer. Despite Wigan’s struggles—sitting 16th in the league—Tickle has been a standout performer, keeping 18 clean sheets. At just 23, he would require a decent investment, but he could be a long-term solution for Norwich with strong resale potential.
Carl Rushworth
Rushworth impressed at Swansea last season but didn’t enjoy the same success during a brief loan spell at Hull City, making only three appearances before returning to Brighton. Still, his talent is clear, and his style suits Norwich well. A permanent deal may be tricky, but a loan move could be a smart short-term fix.
Rome Owusu-Oduro – AZ Alkmaar
A more unconventional option, Owusu-Oduro has emerged as a promising talent in the Netherlands. The 20-year-old has started 24 of AZ Alkmaar’s 30 league games this season and is the type of young, high-upside signing Norwich have recently favoured. Given their investment in youth this year, the Dutchman could be a statement signing for the club’s next chapter.
