Taha Kemara has been sidelined for the rest of the Super Rugby Pacific season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee.

The 22-year-old rising star had been excelling in the No. 10 jersey for the Crusaders but was forced off the field just five minutes into their match against the Highlanders last weekend. The team confirmed the severity of his injury in a statement released on Thursday.

“We’re all gutted for Taha and his family,” said head coach Rob Penney. “But he’s a determined young man with incredible work ethic. His resilience is inspiring, and I’ve no doubt he’ll come back stronger than ever.”

Kemara expressed gratitude for the support from the Crusaders’ staff during a challenging moment.

“When you pick up a long-term injury, your mind races with concerns about your future and your family’s wellbeing. But the management has been amazing, giving me confidence that I’m part of their long-term plans. That reassurance meant the world to me,” he said.

Rivez Reihana made a well-timed return in round 11, taking over the first five-eighth role and guiding the Crusaders to victory. He will now share playmaking duties with experienced Wallaby James O’Connor, who is pushing for a return to the international stage.

The Crusaders have a round 12 bye before facing the table-topping Chiefs in round 13.
