Manchester City Could Beat Sheffield United to Ex-Championship Midfield Star
Manchester City may be eyeing a surprise midfield reinforcement as they prepare for life after Kevin De Bruyne, with reports suggesting they could swoop in ahead of Sheffield United for a former Championship standout.
While the reigning champions have made it to the FA Cup final, this season has fallen short of the dominant standards usually set under Pep Guardiola. One persistent concern has been the reliance on an ageing midfield core featuring De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Mateo Kovacic.
In a move that could address that issue, City are reportedly exploring a deal for Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara — the Brazilian midfielder who impressed during two seasons at Norwich City, including a standout campaign with 25 goal contributions before his £20m transfer to Turkey.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, City have held early talks with Galatasaray over a potential deal. Though Sara’s numbers have dipped slightly in Turkey — registering just two goals and eight assists — he has gained valuable European experience in the Europa League.
The link is unexpected, particularly with City also being tied to high-profile targets like Florian Wirtz. Still, the interest could also come as a blow to Sheffield United, who were reportedly keen on the 24-year-old midfielder themselves.
