Rangers are closing in on a takeover deal with 49ers Enterprises, who are also expected to oversee the appointment of a new manager.

Reports suggest that the American group—owners of the San Francisco 49ers and Leeds United—is nearing completion of its acquisition of a controlling stake in the Glasgow club. This week, representatives from the consortium visited Ibrox to hold key discussions, with Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe and US health insurance magnate Andrew Cavenagh among those in attendance. The duo aim to return Rangers to their former stature, similar to how they led Leeds United back to the Premier League.

Although Rangers recently drew 1-1 with Celtic, the title race is effectively over. On BBC Sportsound, BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English shared that the deal is progressing well and nearing conclusion—adding that such a public stadium visit wouldn’t have happened if talks weren’t on track.

English explained that the group is targeting at least a 51% stake, which they plan to acquire through shares owned by Dave King, John Bennett, and other key stakeholders. While Financial Fair Play rules will limit immediate heavy spending, investment is still expected once the deal is finalized.

Regarding the managerial situation, English believes the incoming owners likely already have a candidate in mind to replace interim boss Barry Ferguson. With Champions League qualifiers looming in July, he emphasized the urgency facing the new regime, which must also address issues within the squad, coaching staff, and infrastructure.
