Promising front-rower Pasilio Tosi has committed his future to New Zealand Rugby and the Hurricanes, signing a multi-year contract to remain in Wellington.

The 140kg powerhouse was a surprise pick in Scott Robertson’s inaugural All Blacks squad in 2024 and made his international debut in the third test of the season against Fiji in San Diego. Originally a No. 8, the 26-year-old’s new deal keeps him in the mix for All Blacks selection through to 2028.

Despite often coming off the bench behind first-choice tighthead Tyrel Lomax, Tosi has chosen to continue his development with the Hurricanes.

“The Canes feel like home to me—I’m really happy to be sticking around for a bit longer,” said Tosi.

Head coach Clark Laidlaw is no stranger to having multiple internationals in one position, having previously managed the dynamic between TJ Perenara and Cam Roigard before Perenara’s move to Japan. Now, the Hurricanes stand alone in Super Rugby Pacific with two active All Black props competing for the same role.

“We’re thrilled that Pasi is staying on,” Laidlaw said. “He took major steps forward last season, earning All Blacks selection, and he’s been outstanding for us. It’s a great situation to have two current All Black tightheads in the team.”

The Hurricanes have a bye in round 13 and will return to action against the Highlanders next weekend as they continue their push for the playoffs.
