Paraag Marathe Deeply Involved in 49ers-Led Rangers Takeover Amid Leeds Promotion Focus
Paraag Marathe is playing a central role in the San Francisco 49ers’ ongoing move to acquire Rangers FC this summer. The deal remains on course, with key members of the American consortium, including Andrew Cavenagh, having already made a visit to Ibrox.
Though Marathe currently serves as chairman of Leeds United—who recently achieved promotion back to the Premier League—he has also been closely engaged in the Gers takeover. According to Andrea Radrizzani, former owner of Leeds United, Marathe has split his attention between Leeds and Rangers in recent weeks.
“I usually speak with him a couple of times a month,” Radrizzani told Sky Sports. “We talk about Leeds and other football developments. We just caught up recently while he was in Leeds, though he’s also been quite occupied with what’s happening at Rangers, exploring new opportunities.”
The involvement of Marathe, known for his proactive leadership style, signals the 49ers’ intent to treat Rangers as a serious strategic investment rather than a side project. His involvement, despite responsibilities at Leeds, shows a high level of commitment to the Ibrox outfit.
Cavenagh is also expected to take on a more hands-on leadership role at Rangers once the takeover is finalized. His previous visits to the club have reportedly left a strong impression, and his football insight and calm management style suggest he could effectively guide Rangers through a new era.
With shareholders such as Dave King reportedly agreeing to sell, and with financial muscle from the 49ers, Rangers could soon have the resources necessary to close the gap on Celtic and make a stronger impact in Europe. Marathe’s strategic vision, coupled with Cavenagh’s expected operational leadership, sets the stage for potentially transformative progress for the Light Blues under this new American-led ownership.
