Norwich Make £100,000 Offer for Fleetwood Starlet Reece Wilkes
Norwich City have submitted a £100,000 offer for highly-rated Fleetwood Town youngster Reece Wilkes, sources have informed Football Insider.
The 16-year-old England youth international has attracted interest from multiple clubs, but Norwich are optimistic about winning the race to secure the attacking midfielder’s signature and bring him to Carrow Road.
Wilkes, a standout talent in Fleetwood’s academy, has already earned caps at both Under-15 and Under-16 levels for England and found the net against Scotland in February. He also made his senior debut for Fleetwood earlier this season, featuring as a late substitute in a narrow 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa U21s in the EFL Trophy.
Norwich Look to Future Amid Potential Summer Departures
Norwich are looking to strengthen their youth setup as they prepare for a busy summer, particularly with striker Josh Sargent expected to leave after a standout campaign. As Football Insider previously reported, the Canaries are also targeting Arsenal academy graduate Nathan Butler-Oyedeji as they build for the future.
Club officials hope to reinvest funds from Sargent’s likely transfer into young, high-potential players like Wilkes. The move signals a strategic shift toward nurturing talent through the academy under the club’s evolving football vision.
Wilshere’s Role Still Uncertain Ahead of Recruitment Drive
Jack Wilshere, who took temporary charge after Johannes Hoff Thorup’s dismissal in April, remains in limbo regarding a full-time appointment following a win and a draw in his two matches. Regardless of who is appointed head coach, the club’s youth-focused recruitment policy is expected to continue.
Wilkes isn’t the only Fleetwood talent attracting interest either, as Football Insider revealed last year that both Swansea and Huddersfield have shown admiration for Irish goalkeeper David Harrington.
Wilshere’s potential long-term involvement could be a compelling factor for Wilkes, offering him a mentor with elite playing experience. Norwich’s board will weigh such considerations carefully as they chart the club’s direction both on and off the pitch.
