Norwich City Make Move for Swindon Town Starlet Botan Ameen
Norwich City have made a formal approach to sign teenage forward Botan Ameen from League Two outfit Swindon Town, according to The Moonraker.
Following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, the Canaries are preparing for a critical summer rebuild. With the search for a permanent manager still ongoing—after Johannes Hoff Thorup’s surprise dismissal due to poor form—former England midfielder Jack Wilshere is currently in interim charge. Whether he remains at the helm permanently is yet to be determined.
In the meantime, the club has begun to act on its transfer plans, and Ameen is already on their radar. The 18-year-old has reportedly drawn attention from clubs in both the Premier League and Championship after breaking into Swindon’s first team in recent months. However, it’s Norwich who have made the first move, tabling a six-figure bid.
Swindon are keen to retain the young forward and have offered him improved terms. Should Ameen allow his contract to expire, any transfer could go to a tribunal, which may award Swindon a more substantial compensation package.
Rapid Rise for Ameen
Ameen, a youth international for Iraq, joined Swindon in 2023 after a spell with QPR’s academy. Under manager Ian Holloway, he has made 17 senior appearances this season, scoring twice and providing two assists, all while still just 18 years old. Capable of playing as both a striker and winger, he has quickly become a valuable asset at the County Ground.
Swindon rate him highly and may be reluctant to part ways just yet, preferring he develops further with regular game time.
A Familiar Strategy for Norwich
Norwich have a history of identifying and nurturing talent from the lower leagues—Kellen Fisher, signed from Bromley, being a recent success. Ameen could follow a similar path, potentially starting in Norwich’s development squad before pushing for first-team minutes.
Given his experience at senior level, however, he might even be considered for a fringe role at Carrow Road straight away. Whether or not the move materialises will depend on how firmly Swindon hold their valuation and if other suitors make competing offers.
