Norwich City have made a move to sign Swindon Town prospect Botan Ameen, according to The Moonraker, which reports that the Championship side has submitted a six-figure offer for the 18-year-old talent. Ameen has impressed after breaking into the first team this season, featuring in 14 League Two matches.
Speaking to Football League World, Swindon supporter pundit Ciaran weighed in on whether the club can keep hold of their emerging star or if a switch to Carrow Road would benefit the teenager.
While acknowledging that Norwich has a solid track record of nurturing young talent, Ciaran suggested that a move right now might not be the most beneficial for Ameen’s development. He explained that, although Ameen has the ability to succeed, he would likely be placed in the under-23s setup at Norwich and then sent out on loan — whereas remaining at Swindon would offer consistent first-team football, a far more valuable opportunity for a player of his age.
Ciaran emphasized that the young midfielder is technically gifted but still needs to round out his game with the physical and mental demands of League Two football — something he can only gain by playing regularly. He argued that another year or two under Ian Holloway’s guidance, especially with the manager’s network of contacts, could help position Ameen for an even bigger move in the future — potentially to a Premier League side, should his progress continue.
Drawing from past experience, Ciaran cited Will Randall, a former Swindon player who left too early for a development role at Wolves and ended up back in the lower leagues, as a cautionary tale. He urged Ameen to consider the bigger picture and the value of staying where he’s getting senior minutes.
Though the Norwich offer is undoubtedly tempting — both in terms of profile and financial gain — Ameen’s focus should be on playing time and development. With Holloway’s experience and faith in him, Swindon might be the best place for the teenager to continue maturing as a player.
