Rangers FC have secured the signing of highly-rated Ghanaian left-back Ebenezer Annan, beating stiff competition from Dutch giants Feyenoord in a deal believed to be worth around £2 million.

The 22-year-old joins the Ibrox outfit from Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade after weeks of speculation linking him with a move to both the Scottish Premiership and the Eredivisie. Rangers moved swiftly to finalize terms with both the club and player, edging out Feyenoord, who had scouted the defender intensively in his last three matches.

Annan, who had a brief stint in Italy with Serie A side Bologna, enjoyed a strong season with Red Star, playing a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign. After spending the first half of the season on loan at OFK Beograd, he returned to Red Star in January and made 14 appearances, impressing with his energy, pace, and defensive discipline.

Reports from Serbia indicated that Feyenoord were preparing a bid for the Ghana international after extensive scouting, but Rangers acted decisively to complete the deal. Club sources have confirmed that Annan passed his medical in Glasgow earlier this week and has agreed personal terms on a long-term contract.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement hailed the signing as a significant boost to the club’s defensive ranks ahead of a crucial season.

> “Ebenezer is a young, dynamic player who fits the profile of what we are building here at Rangers,” Clement said. “He’s already played at a high level and has shown great character in his performances for Red Star. We’re delighted to welcome him to the club and believe he can make a big impact in our system.”

Annan, who has been capped at youth level for Ghana and is tipped for full international honors, expressed his excitement at joining the Glasgow side.

> “It’s a huge honor to sign for a club with such a massive history and passionate fans,” Annan said during his unveiling at Ibrox. “I’ve heard great things about the atmosphere here and I’m ready to give everything to help Rangers win trophies and compete in Europe.”

The left-back is expected to join the squad for pre-season training later this month and will wear the number 3 shirt.

Rangers’ move for Annan comes as part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate their squad with young, versatile talents capable of making an immediate impact and developing further under Clement’s guidance. With Borna Barišić expected to depart this summer, Annan’s arrival provides a timely reinforcement on the left flank.

The capture of Annan is seen as a statement of intent by Rangers, who are keen to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title from Celtic and make a strong showing in European competition next season.

Annan’s debut could come as early as July, when Rangers are expected to feature in Champions League qualifiers, giving him a potential early taste of high-stakes European football.

With this acquisition, Rangers continue to show ambition in the transfer market—securing a sought-after talent in the face of serious interest from one of Europe’s top clubs.
