Glasgow, May 9, 2025 — Celtic FC have officially completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Lennon Miller from Motherwell, in a deal believed to be worth up to £5 million with add-ons, marking a significant statement of intent from the Scottish champions.

The 17-year-old Scotland youth international has been one of the most sought-after prospects in the Scottish Premiership, attracting interest from a host of top clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Strasbourg—who were reportedly preparing a £4 million bid backed by parent club Chelsea. But it is Brendan Rodgers and Celtic who have won the race for his signature, finalizing personal terms and completing the transfer after weeks of negotiations with Motherwell.

Miller, who had been under contract at Fir Park until the summer of 2026, had impressed with his maturity, composure on the ball, and tactical intelligence far beyond his years. Despite suffering an ankle fracture in December 2024, the midfielder returned to training in March and quickly regained his form—convincing Rodgers that he was ready for the step up.

Sources close to the club confirm that Celtic intensified their efforts in recent weeks following Rodgers’ personal request to accelerate the move. While the club had shown interest in Miller as early as January, their initial approach was turned down by Motherwell, who were reluctant to lose their star talent mid-season—especially as he was still recovering from injury at the time.

Rodgers praised Miller following the announcement:

“Lennon is one of the brightest young talents in the country. We’ve tracked his progress for some time, and I’m delighted he’s chosen Celtic for the next stage of his development. He brings quality, maturity, and a winning mentality to our midfield, and we’re excited to help him reach his full potential.”

Motherwell CEO Brian Caldwell also issued a statement acknowledging the player’s contribution and the rationale behind the move:

“This is a proud moment for everyone at Motherwell. Lennon has been an exceptional professional and ambassador for our club. While we never want to lose top talent, we believe this move is the right step for Lennon and a reflection of the excellent work done by our academy and first-team coaches. We have secured a significant fee and a strong sell-on clause, which will benefit the club long-term.”

The fee is expected to eclipse Motherwell’s previous record sale, with sources indicating that performance-based incentives and a sizeable sell-on percentage were key in sealing the deal. Miller is expected to join up with the Celtic first-team immediately for pre-season preparations and could make his competitive debut in the Champions League qualifiers this summer.

For Celtic, this transfer is a major victory in the domestic market, demonstrating both ambition and long-term planning. For Miller, it marks the beginning of a new chapter at one of Scotland’s most storied clubs—a chance to shine on a bigger stage while continuing to grow under the guidance of one of the nation’s most experienced managers.

The Hoops faithful will no doubt be eager to see the teenage star in green and white, with expectations already high for what could become the next jewel in Celtic’s midfield crown.
