Ralph Hasenhüttl Linked with Norwich City Job Following Wolfsburg Exit

Ralph Hasenhüttl has emerged as a potential candidate to take over at Norwich City after his recent departure from VfL Wolfsburg. The Austrian has been named among the bookmakers’ favourites to become the club’s next permanent manager.

Jack Wilshere is currently serving as interim boss at Carrow Road following the dismissal of Johannes Hoff Thorup in April. With the season now concluded, attention has turned to securing a long-term appointment ahead of the next campaign.

Hasenhüttl, 57, has previous experience in English football, having managed Southampton from 2018 to 2022. Despite facing challenges, he kept the Saints in the Premier League during his tenure and gained a reputation for implementing an aggressive, high-pressing style. His stint at Wolfsburg, however, lasted just one season before he was relieved of his duties earlier this month.

Fan Reaction to Hasenhüttl Links

Zeke Downes, a Norwich City fan pundit for Football League World, expressed doubt about the likelihood of Hasenhüttl taking the role, suggesting the timing doesn’t align with the club’s ongoing managerial search.

“I don’t see Ralph Hasenhüttl being appointed,” Downes said. “It feels like his name has popped up simply because he was recently sacked. I think our search for a new manager has been underway longer than that, so unless the club dramatically changes course, it seems unlikely.”

Despite his scepticism, Downes acknowledged Hasenhüttl’s managerial credentials: “I wouldn’t be against it. He did fairly well at Southampton, even though things eventually tailed off. I appreciate his tactical approach, though he hasn’t done much since. Still, I don’t think it’s something we should seriously consider right now.”

Would Hasenhüttl Be a Good Fit at Norwich?

Appointing Hasenhüttl would represent an ambitious move for the Canaries. His Premier League experience and dynamic tactical philosophy could breathe new life into the club, especially given the current squad’s style of play. While his time at Wolfsburg didn’t yield the desired results, his overall track record suggests he’s capable of managing at a high level.

However, there are valid concerns. Dropping into the Championship may not align with Hasenhüttl’s current career ambitions, and his recent exit from Wolfsburg raises questions about his immediate readiness to return to management.

In summary, while Hasenhüttl would be a high-profile and exciting appointment for Norwich City, the possibility of him joining remains uncertain. Much will depend on the club’s direction under new leadership and whether the Austrian is open to taking on a Championship project.
