Rangers are reportedly set to make a move for Estoril centre-back Kevin Boma this summer.

The Ibrox club is gearing up for another active transfer window as they continue their search for a new head coach. Among the managerial candidates linked to the role is Danny Rohl, and player recruitment plans are already in motion ahead of the window’s official opening.

Kevin Boma has now emerged as a key defensive target, with Rangers said to be convinced he fits their profile.

Rangers eye Boma deal amid summer overhaul

As the club prepares for the anticipated 49ers takeover, there’s a clear push for a refreshed identity both on and off the pitch. With a new manager expected soon, the board is under pressure to demonstrate ambition and strengthen the squad.

This is likely to involve signing promising young players who offer long-term potential and resale value. French outlet Foot Mercato reported on May 9 that Rangers are showing strong interest in Boma, a 22-year-old valued between £5 million and £6 million.

The Togo international has also drawn attention from Swiss side FC Basel, who are expected to enter the race for his signature.

Boma a promising option for the Light Blues

After another underwhelming season that saw Celtic comfortably win the Premiership title, Rangers are eager for a new direction.

The rebuild will begin with a managerial appointment and continue through the summer with new signings aimed at closing the gap at the top.

Boma could be a smart addition to the squad, offering reliability in defence. Sporting director Nils Koppen will be keen to make his mark with strong recruitment, and Boma’s 28 appearances in Portuguese football, along with two caps for Togo, suggest he has valuable experience to bring to Govan.
