Hearts Update Ahead of Crucial Premiership Clash

Hearts are gearing up for their final three matches of the season, with the closing stretch beginning at Tynecastle against Motherwell. A win would officially guarantee their place in the Premiership for next season, following a crucial 3-1 victory away to Ross County under interim manager Liam Fox. That result pushed Hearts eight points clear of the relegation play-off position, with just nine points still up for grabs.

Meanwhile, the search for a permanent manager continues, as the club considers a proposal for investment from Tony Bloom. Here are some of the key talking points surrounding Hearts in the lead-up to the Motherwell match.

Speculation Mounts Over McInnes Link

Derek McInnes, currently in charge at Kilmarnock, is reportedly a leading candidate for the Hearts managerial role, according to the Evening News. A subtle hint emerged when McInnes’ assistant, Paul Sheerin, handled pre-match media duties ahead of Killie’s game against Dundee—a move that caught the attention of pundit Peter Grant.

Speaking on Go Radio, Grant commented: “If you’re asking who’s got the best record in Scotland outside Brendan Rodgers, Derek McInnes is right up there. Sheerin taking the press conference was interesting—it might suggest there’s more going on behind the scenes. Derek’s success at Aberdeen and now at Kilmarnock shows he ticks a lot of boxes for what Hearts could be seeking.”

Wighton Joins Montrose Permanently

Former Hearts striker Craig Wighton has signed a two-year deal with Montrose following his release from Dunfermline Athletic. Wighton had spent the latter part of the season on loan at Links Park, and his new manager, Stewart Petrie, expressed excitement about securing the 27-year-old’s services long-term.

“We’re thrilled to have Craig on board. His experience and talent are clear, and in his short loan spell, he’s already shown what he can bring to the team,” Petrie said.

Wighton added: “I’m really happy to commit to Montrose. Everyone’s made me feel welcome and I’ve enjoyed my time here so far. As soon as the gaffer spoke about a permanent move, I wanted to make it happen. We’ve got a strong squad and I believe we can aim high next season.”
