Norwich City reportedly tracking Swindon Town prospect Botan Ameen ahead of potential summer move

Norwich City are reportedly interested in signing Swindon Town teenager Botan Ameen during the upcoming summer transfer window.

As per The Moonraker, the Canaries are among several clubs monitoring the 18-year-old forward, who has caught attention following a breakthrough season in League Two. Despite currently operating without a permanent manager, Norwich’s sporting director Ben Knapper remains focused on identifying promising young talent to support the club’s long-term development.

Ameen made 14 league appearances for Swindon in the 2023/24 season, contributing one goal and two assists as the Robins secured a 12th-place finish.

Although Norwich finished mid-table in the Championship and recently parted ways with head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, the club continues to assess the market. Jack Wilshere is currently overseeing first-team duties on an interim basis.

Financially, Norwich hold the eighth-highest wage bill in the Championship, spending £383,500 per week on their senior squad. Veteran full-back Jack Stacey is reportedly the club’s top earner on £35,000 per week. However, should Ameen move to Carrow Road, his wages are expected to be much lower, likely in the region of £1,500 per week—similar to young players like Ruairi McConville and Gabe Forsyth, who are also on the fringes of the senior setup.

Reports suggest that Norwich have submitted a six-figure bid to secure Ameen’s services. While it’s uncertain whether Swindon will accept the offer, interest in the attacker is growing. Championship and Premier League clubs are also believed to be keeping tabs on the youngster.

Swindon are eager to sign Ameen to his first professional contract, but negotiations have yet to yield an agreement—leaving the door open for a potential transfer. Should the clubs fail to reach a settlement, an independent tribunal may ultimately decide the outcome.
