Penrith hooker Mitchell Kenny has responded to angry punters in a now-deleted Instagram post following his team’s golden point draw with the Cowboys.

On Sunday morning, Kenny addressed online abuse he received from frustrated fans, revealing he had been targeted with betting-related messages after Penrith failed to clinch a win via field goal.

In the dying moments of regulation and again with 20 seconds left in extra time, Kenny chose to run the ball from dummy-half rather than pass to Nathan Cleary, who was positioned for a potential match-winning shot. Earlier in the match, Cleary’s field goal attempt was blocked.

Kenny used his Instagram story to expose the abusive messages sent by a bettor who blamed him for losing a wager, captioning one explicit message with: “These things happen aye! Have a good weekend everyone.”

The incident mirrors a similar episode from March 2021, when former Roosters centre Josh Morris received threatening messages over a failed multi bet. At the time, Morris hit back with his own Instagram story, stating: “We don’t care about your multis.”

Penrith now head into a bye week before returning to action against the Knights in Round 12.
