Rangers end Ibrox slump with emphatic 4-0 win over Aberdeen

Rangers brought an end to their dismal run of form at Ibrox with a dominant 4-0 victory over Aberdeen on Sunday, 11 May. Goals from Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane, and Jefte sealed a much-needed win in front of a sparsely filled home crowd, with the Union Bears displaying a pointed pre-match message in the stands.

Prior to this result, the Gers had gone seven home games without a win across all competitions, but this emphatic performance provided a timely boost in morale.

Dessers had an earlier effort disallowed for offside in the first half, while Aberdeen’s Kristers Tobers found himself at the centre of controversy just before the break. He escaped with only a yellow card after catching Nedim Bajrami high on the shin and dragging his boot down the leg—an incident that VAR reviewed but chose not to escalate.

Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett, however, strongly disagreed with that decision, arguing that Tobers should have seen red. “This goes beyond reckless—it fits the definition of serious foul play,” Hackett told Ibrox News. “The laws are clear: excessive force or endangering an opponent’s safety must result in a red card.”

Despite the contentious moment, Rangers were dominant—particularly in the second half—and made the most of a lacklustre Aberdeen display. Though the crowd at Ibrox reflected a season fizzling out, the performance offered a rare high point and a return to winning ways on home turf.
