Brendan Rodgers has opened up about his conversations with Kieran Tierney ahead of the defender’s anticipated return to Celtic this summer. Tierney has penned a pre-contract agreement and is set to reunite with Rodgers, under whom he flourished during the manager’s first stint at the club.

Tierney’s homecoming is seen as a significant boost for the Hoops. A product of the Celtic academy, he knows the club intimately and previously helped them to multiple domestic titles before his 2019 move to Arsenal. During his time in England, he gained valuable experience in both the Premier League and European competitions—and now he’s ready to return to familiar surroundings.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Aberdeen, Rodgers noted that while the two haven’t been in constant contact lately, Tierney’s excitement to return is clear.

Speaking via Celtic FC’s YouTube channel, Rodgers said:

“No, I know he will be. I haven’t spoken to him a lot of late.

“We’ve exchanged messages and stuff, but I know his love of the club and excitement to come back here.

“So yes, I’m sure he’s champing at the bit to get back.”

Bringing Tierney back represents a major win for Celtic on multiple fronts. A fan favourite and homegrown talent, the Scotland international returns with high-level experience and leadership qualities gained during his years in England and in Europe.

Rodgers’ influence in facilitating Tierney’s return shouldn’t be underestimated. He played a key role in shaping the left-back’s early career, and their strong bond has clearly influenced Tierney’s decision to come back.

As Celtic gear up for a crucial end to the current campaign and start planning for next season, Tierney’s return signals Rodgers’ intent to build a squad capable of sustained domestic success and another strong European run.
