Edinburgh-born wrestling star Joe Hendry has taken centre stage at both Wrestlemania and the Royal Rumble this year, but on Wednesday night he returned to his hometown to soak in some Scottish Premiership action.

In a surprise moment at Tynecastle, Hendry made a special appearance during halftime of Hearts’ clash with St Johnstone, stepping out onto the pitch to the delight of fans in attendance.

The reigning TNA World Champion recently performed before a massive crowd of 60,000 at Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, where he faced off against 14-time WWE Champion Randy Orton. Hendry’s profile in the professional wrestling world has soared in 2025, particularly after a rapturous reaction during his appearance in January’s Royal Rumble match.

Currently signed to TNA Wrestling, Hendry benefits from the promotion’s working partnership with WWE, which allows crossover appearances. At 37, he’s quickly becoming one of the most recognisable figures in wrestling, with appearances on WWE’s NXT brand further expanding his reach.

Earlier this year, Hendry spoke to the Edinburgh Evening News about his meteoric rise and future ambitions. A former pupil of Drummond Community High School, he also revealed his budding connection to football, largely influenced by his Hearts-supporting family.

“I was always more into wrestling and MMA,” he admitted. “But my family are massive Hearts fans. I’ve started attending matches and learning the ropes of the sport. I’m getting there—and if I had to pick a side, my dad would disown me if I didn’t choose the Jambos!”

Wearing the famous maroon strip during his Tynecastle cameo, Hendry seems to have fully embraced life as a Hearts supporter. While some in the crowd may not have known him by name, his appearance is sure to have sparked curiosity among the Gorgie faithful.

Hendry currently holds the TNA Men’s World Championship, with fans able to catch his matches via the TNA+ app. He’s also a recurring presence on WWE’s NXT, thanks to the ongoing collaboration between the two wrestling promotions. WWE programming, including Hendry’s appearances, is available to UK viewers on Netflix, with highlights and full segments often uploaded to YouTube — including his show-stopping Wrestlemania 41 entrance.
