Davide Ancelotti turns down Rangers opportunity to stay with Brazil alongside father Carlo

A stunning development from Madrid has confirmed that both Carlo Ancelotti and his son Davide will remain together with the Brazilian national team for the foreseeable future.

Davide Ancelotti, who had been strongly tipped as a front-runner for the Rangers managerial vacancy, now looks set to pass on the chance to take charge at Ibrox. Instead, he will continue his role alongside his father as part of Brazil’s coaching staff beyond the initially agreed fixtures against Paraguay and Ecuador—crucial matches in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

With Ancelotti Jr no longer in contention, Rangers will shift their focus to alternative candidates. The 49ers Enterprises group and director Kevin Thelwell had long admired Davide, but the 34-year-old now seems destined to pursue a historic journey with Carlo, aiming to end Brazil’s 24-year World Cup drought and potentially become the first father-son duo to lead a team to international glory.

While Davide was also linked with a potential move to Como, it now appears club football is no longer a priority. Meanwhile, interim manager Barry Ferguson remains vocal about his ambition to secure the role on a permanent basis.

Spanish journalist Albert Pereiro confirmed the news, stating: “Carlo and Davide Ancelotti are not parting ways—Davide has decided to delay his journey as a head coach and will remain by his father’s side with Brazil through the 2026 World Cup.”
