James Forrest was the standout at Celtic Park this afternoon, netting a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw for Celtic against St Mirren.

While the result fell short of expectations, Forrest delivered a moment to savour for the home crowd with a milestone goal. His strike means he has now scored in 16 consecutive seasons for Celtic — a remarkable feat for a player who has been a key figure throughout his career at the club.

The match itself lacked intensity and spark. With the league title already secured weeks earlier at Tannadice, Brendan Rodgers opted to rotate his squad following their 5-1 midweek win over Aberdeen. However, the changes disrupted Celtic’s rhythm, and the team struggled to find any real momentum. St Mirren capitalised in the second half, breaking the deadlock with a well-executed finish.

Celtic laboured in attack, failing to create many clear-cut opportunities. Misplaced passes and a general lack of urgency made it look as though defeat was inevitable — until Forrest made his mark deep into added time.

At 33 years old, the winger was sharp to latch onto Alistair Johnston’s delivery into the box and finished with composure to draw the sides level. Beyond rescuing a point, the goal etched his name further into club history.

Forrest’s timely contribution could give Rodgers food for thought ahead of next weekend’s Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen. With other wide options, such as Nicolas Kühn, struggling to impress, Forrest may have strengthened his case for a starting role at Hampden.

Though the league campaign concluded on a subdued note, Forrest’s late intervention provided a moment of inspiration — a fitting reminder of his enduring class and experience as Celtic prepare for one final push for silverware.
