Davide Ancelotti on Rangers’ Radar as Club Seek Clement Successor

Rangers have identified Davide Ancelotti as a serious candidate to become their next permanent manager, as the search to replace Philippe Clement intensifies.

The Real Madrid assistant coach, and son of legendary boss Carlo Ancelotti, has been praised by his father as a vital member of his backroom staff. With Carlo set to take charge of the Brazil national team after leaving the Bernabeu this summer, speculation has emerged that Davide could follow him to South America.

However, Record Sport understands that Rangers’ managerial hunt has reached an advanced stage, with CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell leading the process — and Ancelotti Jr is firmly in the mix. It’s believed both Thelwell and Rangers’ majority owners, 49ers Enterprises, have long admired the young coach.

Barry Ferguson took temporary charge following Clement’s departure, but a 2-2 draw with Hibernian on the final day of the Premiership season appears to have ended his interim spell.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out about his son’s coaching future, underlining Davide’s importance within his current setup. Speaking ahead of Madrid’s clash with Sevilla, the Italian said:

“He’s an essential part of my staff, not just because he’s my son, but because I trust him completely. He often tells me things other coaches might hesitate to say. The whole team is young, full of energy, and experienced enough to challenge my thinking. Real Madrid will benefit from their work going forward.”

Reflecting on his uncertain future after the Hibs draw, Ferguson said: “I hope it’s not my last game but we’ll see over the next couple of days. I believe I can do the job with the right backing. I know I can turn things around.”
