Rangers are intensifying their efforts to appoint a new permanent manager following the departure of interim boss Barry Ferguson. The club legend was brought in temporarily after Philippe Clement’s dismissal, but his short spell in charge failed to produce the results or performances necessary to earn the job full-time.
One of the leading contenders for the role is Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl. According to journalist David Ornstein, Rohl is open to a move despite being under contract with the Championship side and is attracting interest from multiple clubs. While Southampton are also keen on him following their relegation, there’s no certainty he’ll be drawn to St Mary’s.
Though Rohl’s only experience as a head coach is at Hillsborough, he comes with a strong pedigree, having served as an assistant at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich, and with the German national team. He successfully kept Wednesday in the Championship last season and led them to a comfortable mid-table finish this term.
Rangers are now expected to firm up a shortlist that could include Rohl, Davide Ancelotti, Steven Gerrard, and Sean Dyche. CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are spearheading the search, with a focus on securing a manager capable of handling the pressures of top-level football, implementing an attacking style, and leading the team in both domestic and European competitions.
With Rohl reportedly open to talks, the Ibrox club may soon make their move, aiming to finalise an appointment by the end of May—just in time for the summer transfer window.
