Johannes Hoff Thorup is reportedly in advanced discussions to become the next manager of Norwich City’s Championship rivals, QPR. According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the former Norwich boss has travelled to London for talks with the QPR hierarchy and is closing in on a swift return to Championship management, just weeks after his dismissal from Carrow Road.
Thorup was relieved of his duties at Norwich following a defeat to Millwall on Easter Monday, which formed part of a broader slump in form—six losses in ten matches. His potential appointment comes as QPR placed current head coach Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave amid reports linking him to the vacant West Brom job.
QPR ended the season in 15th place, two spots and one point behind Norwich. Meanwhile, the Canaries are actively pursuing Thorup’s replacement, with further interviews scheduled this week.
Speaking to The Pink Un, Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper explained the rationale behind parting ways with Thorup before the season concluded.
“From February onwards, the results started to dip,” Knapper said. “But it wasn’t just about results. Performances also declined as the season wore on. Some of our best individual and team displays were early in the season, but those levels deteriorated. Games like Portsmouth at home and Millwall away were particularly tough to watch, and it became clear we needed to act.
“The data showed trends moving in the wrong direction, and with our ambitions, we couldn’t afford to stand still. Progress isn’t always linear, but over a solid sample, you should see growth. Unfortunately, that wasn’t happening.”
