Arne Engels is drawing strong interest from Serie A side Atalanta, with reports from Sport Italia suggesting the Italian club is preparing a move for the Celtic midfielder.

Currently sitting third in Serie A, Atalanta are said to have made “concrete moves” to secure the 21-year-old’s signature. Engels, who joined Celtic last summer for a club-record fee, has impressed in his debut season, making over 50 appearances and contributing double-digit goals and assists from midfield.

Atalanta’s interest in Engels isn’t new. The Bergamo club previously explored moves for Celtic midfielders, including an attempt to sign Matt O’Riley last summer, and reportedly reignited their pursuit of Engels during the January window.

Celtic, however, are unlikely to entertain offers easily. Engels is under a long-term contract and is considered a key figure in the club’s future plans, especially with Champions League qualifiers on the horizon. It’s believed only a substantial bid would prompt the Scottish champions to engage in talks.

Engels has also expressed his desire to cap the season with a domestic treble. Should he help Celtic to another trophy at Hampden on Saturday, the growing interest from top European clubs may only intensify.
