Former Bear Muhsin Muhammad’s Son Moose Released by Panthers — Could Chicago Offer a Lifeline?
Muhsin Muhammad, who played three notable seasons with the Chicago Bears — including a Super Bowl run — often found himself hindered by inconsistent quarterback play. Now, his son, Moose Muhammad, is hoping to carve out his own path in the NFL.
After going undrafted this year, the younger Muhammad signed with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent, aiming to build a connection with former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. However, that opportunity was short-lived, as Carolina waived Muhammad with an injury designation less than a month after bringing him on board.
Could the Bears Be a Future Landing Spot for Moose Muhammad?
Although his stint in Carolina ended abruptly, Muhammad’s career is far from over. At just 24 years old and with solid college experience at Texas A&M, he may still have a shot elsewhere — and Chicago could be a natural fit given his family ties.
Currently, the Bears’ top receivers include DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and first-round rookie Luther Burden III. Veterans Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay round out the next tier, with Tyler Scott potentially holding onto the sixth receiver spot — though his future remains uncertain.
Looking ahead to 2025, Chicago’s receiver depth chart could undergo changes, especially with Zaccheaus and Duvernay on expiring contracts. That opens the door for someone like Muhammad to earn a practice squad role and potentially work his way up.
At 6 feet tall, Muhammad had his best college season in 2022, hauling in 38 receptions for 610 yards and four touchdowns. If healthy, he could be a low-risk addition with upside for a Bears team that may soon be reshuffling its receiver room.
