A jersey worn during Rangers’ iconic 3-2 triumph over Dynamo Moscow in the 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final at the Nou Camp has been sold for an extraordinary sum.
The historic shirt, worn by former Rangers winger Tommy McLean, achieved a “world record” price at auction. McLean, who made 452 appearances for the Glasgow club, helped the Ibrox side to three League titles, four Scottish Cups, and three League Cups during his career.

Auctioned by Graham Budd Auctions, a firm that specialises in sports memorabilia, the famed number 7 shirt fetched a staggering £19,000—setting a new world record for a Scottish football jersey sold at auction.
And it wasn’t the only item with Scottish football ties to attract a high bid during the event on Wednesday, May 21. A 1965 shirt worn by Real Madrid icon Ferenc Puskás in a European Cup clash against Kilmarnock was sold for an impressive £40,000.
David Convery, Head of Sporting Memorabilia at Graham Budd Auctions, commented:
“With the strong interest ahead of the sale, we knew the Tommy McLean collection would generate significant attention. The total sales exceeded £130,000, and two shirts set new auction records. This shows the value of collections from former players and demonstrates the robust global interest in historic football shirts.”
