Rangers Near Appointment of Brian Priske as New Manager

Rangers are reportedly on the verge of appointing Brian Priske as their next manager.

The 48-year-old Dane has been unemployed since February after parting ways with Feyenoord, but boasts a strong résumé with title-winning stints at FC Midtjylland and Sparta Prague.

Following the dismissal of Philippe Clement earlier this year, Rangers have been exploring new managerial options. Club legend Barry Ferguson stepped in as interim boss but is not in line for a permanent role after a disappointing spell that saw unwanted records set in the Premiership.

Recent developments suggest Rangers’ pursuit of Priske is gaining momentum. While BBC Sport reported on 24 May that talks had taken place, Dutch outlet VI has since claimed the deal is now close, noting that Priske is “set to join Rangers” after a potential move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg fell through.

Who is Brian Priske?

Priske began his managerial career in 2019 and quickly found success. He led Midtjylland to the Danish Superliga title in 2019/20 and guided them to the Champions League group stages the following season. Although his time at Antwerp and Feyenoord was less fruitful, he rebounded at Sparta Prague by winning two Czech league titles, the Czech Cup, and reaching the Europa League last 16—eventually bowing out to Liverpool.

Priske has also shown respect for former Rangers boss Philippe Clement, calling him a “good coach” and an “amazing person” during a Europa League clash between Sparta Prague and Rangers in the 2023/24 season.

As a player, Priske earned 24 caps for Denmark and featured at Euro 2004, playing alongside ex-Rangers forward Peter Lovenkrands. His club career included spells at Genk, Club Brugge, and Portsmouth, where he played as a defender.

Now, with Wolfsburg interest fading, all signs point to Priske taking the reins at Ibrox.
