As Rangers continue their search for a new manager, a Premier League club has unveiled their new head coach—someone who reportedly rejected the opportunity to take over at Ibrox.
Recent reports have indicated that Rangers have been in discussions with Brian Priske, the former Feyenoord boss, making him the latest name linked with the vacant managerial post.
Davide Ancelotti is still viewed as the frontrunner for the role, while other contenders include former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and Leicester City’s managerial target, Russell Martin.
However, just days after reportedly turning down Rangers’ interest, ex-RC Lens manager Will Still has secured a high-profile role with a recently relegated Premier League club.
Will Still takes charge at Southampton following relegation
Southampton have confirmed the appointment of Will Still as their new manager, just a week after the 32-year-old English-born coach parted ways with Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
Still had reportedly declined an offer from Rangers, with reports citing his desire to return to England due to his wife’s ongoing health issues.
Ahead of Southampton’s final match of the Premier League season—already confirmed as their last before heading to the Championship—Still was unveiled as their new boss. He was also spotted in the stands as the Saints suffered a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
The young manager, who previously led Lierse, Beerschot, and Reims, has credited much of his early coaching inspiration to the video game Football Manager.
Davide Ancelotti delays Brazil move amid Ibrox links
Rangers’ managerial pursuit is expected to pick up pace this week, as several top European leagues have now concluded their seasons.
Davide Ancelotti has announced his departure from Real Madrid, coinciding with his father Carlo Ancelotti’s farewell to the Spanish giants. The elder Ancelotti is set to take over Brazil’s national team, and Davide had initially been expected to join him on that journey.
However, The Athletic reports that those plans may now change, with Rangers’ strong interest in Davide possibly keeping him in Europe. It’s claimed that while Carlo will fly to Brazil on Sunday, May 25, assistants Davide Ancelotti and Francesco Mauri are staying behind as they are being considered for positions in the Rangers’ new coaching setup.
Further discussions between Davide Ancelotti and Rangers are reportedly scheduled to take place in the coming days.
